Yesterday was great! S3S had a fun maths lesson. We did a sheet on fractions, decimals and percentages… Tash, Mark, Ryan and I got to take some people in the room next door and help them get a better understanding of it, I think they have improved
Yesterday I had a great maths lesson because we had an assessment on fractions. I think I really learnt a lot because once Mrs. Stenning told us how to figure the answers out I flew through it. We had to use multiplication and division. I really enjoyed that lesson.
This week in maths we have been doing Volume and Capacity I find it tricky but it is a great challenge for me. I have been practising it at home for homework and I am improving. Mrs K I want to know what we are going to be doing next in maths.

Today in Maths we had to fold an A4 piece of paper into two prisms. Ms David had made popcorn so we were really excited. When our prisms were ready we had to put the taller prism into the wider prism. The fun part was when we read the instructions. We had to fill the tall prism with popcorn and empty it in the wide prism so we could figure out the volume and see if they had the same volume. Some of the groups in the class had the same volume but my group’s were different. We still figured out why and we were also able to eat the popcorn as well.
Luke, did you think that when you built your prisms that each would have different capacities? You ask about cubic roots? What do you know about square roots?
The square root of a number is just the number which when multiplied by itself gives the first number. So 2 is the square root of 4 because 2 x 2 = 4.
Likewise for cubic roots. The cubic root of a number is just the number which when multiplied by itself twice, gives the first number. So 2 is the cubic root of 8 because 2x2x2 = 8. So 3 is the cubic root of 27 because 3 x 3 x 3 = 27. So if you had a cube with a volume of 27cubic centimetres, then the length of each of the edges will be 3cm.
This week in maths, we are going to learn about 3D shapes (3 Dimensional). I am not great at 3D shapes, it has always been my major challenge in maths. I am excellent at identifying shapes, but cannot sketch a 3D shape, or do its net. I endeavour to learn about sketching and identifying nets.
In maths today we were working on fractions. We had to muliply, subtract, divide and change improper to mixed. I think it’s fun doing fractions and getting lots of work sheets on them!
This week during maths I feel that I have learnt a lot about 3D objects. How to draw nets and shapes is a really easy thing to do. Ms David is a big help to my learning in maths especially. I like the game we played today in maths. Can we play it again tomorrow?
In maths this week we have been doing fractions, division and multiplication. We have also been doing year 7 worksheets. I have been having fun in maths this week.
I think I could use this skill drawing buildings in different views.

In maths this week we have been doing fractions, division and multiplication. We have also been doing year 7 worksheets. I have been having fun in maths this week.
Today Ms David gave S3V a 3D space worksheet and it was easy for me and I thought about “How I can use this after I finish school?” Then I realised that if I was to become an architect than I can use my knoledge of 3D Space (prisms, pyramids).
From the maths work we have been doing in class I have learnt new things and improved on the stuff I already knew. I am enjoying maths! We have done some sheets on multiplication, division and fractions. I like the year 7 revision sheets and am looking forward to doing more!
What are you doing up so late? Does your mum know you are still on the computer at 9.45pm? It’s great that you are enjoying Maths. I wonder if you can explain to your class what is making the Maths so enjoyable, and how you have been able to learn the new things so well. It might help someone who is still having trouble.
Today I opened my eyes and realised that if I want to get a good grade in maths I have to work for it. That’s what I did in the maths lesson today, and I didn’t need help. I have now started to realise that I’m smart when I try my best and I shouldn’t worry if I get a little bit wrong
In the beginning of the year, I didn’t understand much about fractions and decimals, however, this was my challenge for the year. I’ve tried extremely hard to succeed in this challenge and thankfully I did. I have improved outrageously and now I love doing fractions and decimals!!
In our class we have been doing lots of maths. We have had some easy maths, we have also been getting some challenging maths. I have been finding most of it a little hard to understand, but eventually I end up understanding more. If it wasn’t for Mrs Dunn I wouldn’t understand the hard maths that I don’t understand, so I’m happy and lucky that Mrs Dunn is my teacher.
We did a maths test today. I was really confident when I sat down to do the test, and I think I got it all right. What about other classes? Did you have a test?
Do you know what you have to do to get an “A”, Bronson? You know it’s totally up to you and you can do it by following the “explicit quality criteria” from Mrs K? Good luck, Bronson.
In S3D we have basically been doing a lot of Yr 7 revision sheets……I quite enjoy maths because its my favourite subject and I’ve always understood most of the problems and sums. Even the ones Mrs Dunn just throws at us!
Shelly you should have been in class today, it was really fun. But I wish that some people in our class that are doing really well in maths were able to do some of the work that Jason does I would like more of a challenge. It will get me to think more and put my brain to work and maths is my favourite subject
But this week I have to say maths was probably one of the best weeks I’ve had with maths, I even finished all the sums on the board and out of all 30 (if I think I remember) I only got 2 or 3 wrong!!! To me, that’s a huge improvement!
But I’ve wondered if say I went to a shop for example……Woolworths, where would I find fractions??

Bronson
When you completed the Multiplication and Division test, you seemed to be very pleased with yourself. You were also showing me how you would be worthy of a higher grade by answering the challenge question. The test seemed to give you an opportunity to do your best. I think this tells you lots about yourself as a learner and tells me lots about how you are wanting to improve yourself. Keep up the momentum!
I like Ms David. (Did I say that right?) She’s very helpful, not just for us, but to Mrs K because its always benefits her if there’s another pair of eyes in the room. I think. Ms David isn’t watching this is she? But she is extremely helpful. She explained to me how to get a 3/4 when you divide fractions. Ms David if you’re watching, you’re FULLY AWESOME!
I like to learn more about fractions and ways to multiply, divide, add and subtract them. Oh and Mrs K, I know it’s not very relevant but, do you think I read fluently?
Hi whoever’s reading !
I really feel confident in maths this week, we’ve been doing fractions and I feel great about my new learning!!! I now am sooo confident with addition, subtraction and multiplication! I’m not afraid of asking for help either and I have a really cool feeling. Ms David is going to be a great teacher I know it and Mrs K. is already great.
- Becca
P.S I like the gong.
Thank you so much Joshua, because of you, I know how to subtract fractions. Thankyou for wasting all your patience on me, it really helped me out. Thanks a lot

I agree with you Luke. Ms David is doing great. But as normal I am finding it hard to keep on task. I get so distracted with other thoughts I do not hear the instructions, Mrs.K is ALWAYS trying to pull me out of lala land but I can’t help it. There are also the times when it is TOO difficult, I get sooo fustrated I ‘SHUT DOWN’ as Mrs.K says and I don’t bother, but I know I need to work on this so I am going to TRY harder. But what if maths is sooo incredibly boring, what am I supposed to do with that?….I just doze off. I know it is the wrong thing to do, so that is why I am going to put in a great effort to concentrate. I hope you read this Mrs.K and see how I can set my mind on things in class (with a few reminders along the way) and be a better mathematician.
Emily, you are being very reflective about your learning in maths. If you can just keep an open mind and be as positive about yourself as you are with your writing. Do you think it would be a good idea to check your spelling before you send your comment in? Write a response in a word document and use spell check or use an online dictionary.
Mrs Stenning,
I know it isn’t really relevant but with mathletics, I am not able to get access to it at home. It takes so long to load so by the time I am off the computer it only just loads. And it never fully loads, but I shall do more blog Good Bye, have a nice evening. Oh and by the way, tomorrow, I will try to be on my best behaiour for Mrs Murphy and shall fill you in on the behaviours for the rest of the class.
Mrs Von Keisenberg, in Maths I think Ms David is doing an exellent job becoming a new teacher and I also like the great idea to get a gong in the classroom.
How many tests do we have to do? And I just found out that we have a test tommrow, but I guess its for our own good! Mrs K why are you so smart at maths? You’re like a strike of lightning when it comes to maths. I’m trying my best to turn out like you when I’m older. but it doesn’t mean I’m going to be a teacher!
I did but it was pretty easy, and now we probably will have more on Monday and it might be a hard test
By: mikky on November 6, 2009 at 2:53 am
Michaela, you are already a star. How well have you been trying to improve your maths! I was really impressed with the extra work that you did to practise your addition and subtraction skills. You found some really good worksheets. You might want to share the sites with the others here.
I have shared the website with my close friends. I chose to do extra maths sheets because I’m scared I’m going to forget how to do them. I also have to get ready for high school (even though we use calculators). I feel much better in maths than last term, maybe it’s because Ms David is helping out so it takes some pressure off you. we have been learning this really fun game where we had to roll three numbers with a dice and then work out different maths prolems that eqaul 12. it was an competative game evrey one was so excited about it and tyler kept on getting angrey which was funny cuse her face was all red.
Today in maths S3S played a fantastic game that came from the fabulous mind of stunning Mrs Stenning, the best maths teacher in Australia (even better than Mrs K!). It was a good competitive game, however some people were going over the top. The main aim of the game was to make 12 out of four numbers it was vey fun and I have 2 solutions in a top secret folder stashed away in my desk.
Today in Maths, we played a game called…I’m not sure. It was “one” of the best maths game I have played ever! The class was split into two groups, one was called “Team Mark” and “Team Aaron”. I was in “Team Mark”. I was with plenty of other people. “Team Aaron” was shouting a lot and weren’t really collaborating with their team. But “Team Mark” was ‘perfect’. Just joking. We were all very constructive with each other’s feelings…mostly. We are going to continue the game tomorrow. “Team Mark” will win, I’m confident. Good luck “Team Aaron” and let the best man win…which is us!
Maths today was fun because we were playing a game but learning at the same time. I liked my group because “Team Mark” were very co-operative and worked together. Some people in “Team Aaron” were shouting but they were co-operative as well. “Team Mark” were also shouting, but when the teacher announced that she would give a point to the most collaborative group, that’s when “Team Mark” started working together and caught up with “Team Aaron.”
Hey Jack! We are doing word problems in maths.
We are enjoying maths lately because Mrs Stenning is the best teacher in Australia (she told me to say that). I hope maths is enjoyable today because maths has benn enjoyable all year round.
She told you to say that? I would’ve said without her telling me. Yes maths has been very enjoyable, I think personally, you have learnt a lot. Goodbye
Still
Ugh,maths
But I’m glad I know how to add, subtract and multiply fractions now.
I guess I just like English more
But still, UGH!, MATHS!!
By: EMILY T!! on November 4, 2009 at 5:44 am
Today in maths when I was teaching Alexis, I found out that she was pretty confident in her maths and all she needed to figure out the problem was a little bit of explanin,g and soon later she was making problems to solve herself. When she challenged me to a difficult problem she was able to correct my mistakes.
I used to hate maths but now I love it , it is one of my favourite subjects. When you know what you are doing it is fun, but if you are confused and don’t know what to do you seem to hate it.
I agree entirely. But if you’re confused…sometimes you might not hate it…but mostly I do if I’m not sure how to do it…but I like a challenge but not too hard. Are you reading this Mrs Stenning? Im joking…maybe..
I totally agree with that Jordi, thats what has always happened to me in every subject. I think that’s why I ask so many questions in class. When you don’t get the task that has been set, it’s always best to get clarification by the teacher or even those around you.
Nathan, I can’t work out what you have written in this algorithm. Can you explain what you have done?
Also I’m so glad you had fun today teaching Connor. I bet you clarified a lot of your own understanding while you were teaching him.
Well Rhonda, it looks like we will have to work harder together so it will stop “running in your family”. By the way I thought you were working really well in our small group. You were clever when you were reading the numbers and you seemed to have the idea of trading. Maybe we can work by ourselves on Thursday so we can practise some strategies by ourselves for a while.
Maths has been fun lately because we have a budget of how much the teacher gives us to complete a project, for example doing up a car, renovating a house, making a garden and stuff like that.
Today in maths Stage Three S marked a pre- test task. There was a question about km and most people got the answers wrong, including me. But with the help from Mrs. Stenning doing it on the board I followed through with her and then I got how the problem had to be solved. We also were in groups and we had to figure out answers to a division sum. The answer was 5 and we had to work out in our group how many other solutions there were. It was easy but the year 6′s had to do different solutions than just the 5x tables.
Yesterday in Stage Three 3 we had a very fun maths lesson, well I think it was! We had to use brochures. With the brochures we had to pick a project that we would do. Some people redecorated their whole house or even did a weekly shop. Our mini project: Mrs. Stenning gave us a budget of how much we could use. I redecorated a whole outdoor area and I had enough money left over to buy food and dog food. My budget was $8000 dollars and the closest I got was $7999.99.
Our teacher knows what kind of maths to teach us. Sometimes we split into groups and the kids that know something will teach it to the other kids. Our teacher gives us very interesting work, for example we have to do 100 times tables questions in under 5 minutes, and I have learnt a lot more times tables than I had before.
When you are handling money you might need to add it to get the right amount.
Also when you buy carpet, wood and fabric you will have to have the right amount.
If you are laying concrete you will need to get the measurement so you can get the right amount of concrete mix.
Yes! We went shopping yesterday and we had to look at the prices and we also had to look at the tag to find out which bottle of listerine would you get more use out of! It was very interesting because I never look at that when I go shopping with mum!
I’m enjoying maths this term because there are lots of new things that I’m learning. I’ve picked it up really quickly. So far I’m enjoying the shapes unit because I have learnt lots of new language.
Mrs K why aren’t I allowed to go on spellodrome any more and why can’t I go into games?

Good Bye, have a nice evening. Oh and by the way, tomorrow, I will try to be on my best behaiour for Mrs Murphy and shall fill you in on the behaviours for the rest of the class.
I know it isn’t really relevant but with mathletics, I am not able to get access to it at home. It takes so long to load so by the time I am off the computer it only just loads. And it never fully loads, but I shall do more blog

Today in maths when I was teaching Alexis, I found out that she was pretty confident in her maths and all she needed to figure out the problem was a little bit of explanin,g and soon later she was making problems to solve herself. When she challenged me to a difficult problem she was able to correct my mistakes.

I totally agree with that Jordi, thats what has always happened to me in every subject. I think that’s why I ask so many questions in class. When you don’t get the task that has been set, it’s always best to get clarification by the teacher or even those around you.

I had fun learning about maths and teaching Connor. This is an example: 64 783
+83(1)7(1)85

83 7 85
83785=83785

I found maths a bit difficult today. Mrs Stenning was teaching a group of people and I was one of them. It’s natural for me not to get maths.
P.S. it runs in the family .

By: tash on October 23, 2009

Yeah… that was fun, But I think I needed to lower my budget, because my budget was $20000 dollars and I only spent $4000 dollars.
